How To Use PDF Page Numbering Tool

Getting Started

  1. Open the Tool: Open the HTML file in any modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari)

  2. No Installation Required: Everything runs in your browser – no software to install

  3. Privacy Guaranteed: All processing happens locally on your computer – no files are uploaded to any server

Uploading PDF Files

Method 1: Drag & Drop

  • Simply drag your PDF files from your computer and drop them onto the “Drag & drop PDF files here” area

  • You can select multiple PDF files at once

Method 2: Click to Browse

  • Click on the upload area or the “click to browse” text

  • Select one or multiple PDF files from your computer

  • Note: Maximum file size is 50MB per PDF

Viewing Uploaded Files

  • Uploaded files appear in the file list below the upload area

  • Each file shows:

    • File name

    • File size

    • Number of pages

  • Click the eye icon to select a PDF for processing

  • Click the trash icon to remove a PDF

Previewing Pages

Thumbnail View

  • After uploading, you’ll see thumbnail previews of the first 20 pages

  • Click any thumbnail to see a larger preview

  • Note: Only first 20 pages show thumbnails for performance

Large Preview

  • Click on any thumbnail to open a larger preview

  • Use the X button to close the large preview

  • Navigate between pages by clicking different thumbnails

Setting Page Number Options

1. Position & Alignment

  • Position: Choose where page numbers appear (Top/Bottom Left/Center/Right)

  • X Offset: Adjust horizontal position (-200 to +200 pixels)

  • Y Offset: Adjust vertical position (-200 to +200 pixels)

  • Tip: Use offsets for fine-tuning if numbers don’t align perfectly

2. Font & Style

  • Font Family: Choose from 6 standard fonts (Helvetica, Arial, Times New Roman, etc.)

  • Font Size: Adjust from 8pt to 48pt using the slider

  • Font Color: Pick any color using color picker or enter hex code

  • Opacity: Make numbers more or less transparent (10% to 100%)

3. Numbering Format

  • Numbering Style: Choose from:

    • Arabic (1, 2, 3)

    • Roman numerals (i, ii, iii)

    • Uppercase Roman (I, II, III)

    • Alphabet (a, b, c)

    • Uppercase Alphabet (A, B, C)

  • Start Number: Choose which number to start from (default: 1)

  • Custom Format: Use placeholders:

    • {num} = page number

    • {total} = total pages

    • Example: “Page {num} of {total}”

  • Page X of Y: Checkbox for automatic “Page X of Y” format

4. Page Range

  • Apply to pages: Choose where to add numbers:

    • All pages

    • Odd pages only

    • Even pages only

    • Custom range

  • Custom Range: Specify pages using:

    • Single pages: “1,3,5”

    • Ranges: “1-5”

    • Combined: “1,3,5-8,10”

Processing Your PDF

Step 1: Select PDF

  • Click the eye icon next to your desired PDF in the file list

  • The selected PDF will be highlighted in blue

Step 2: Configure Options

  • Adjust all settings as needed

  • Settings are automatically saved for next time

Step 3: Add Page Numbers

  • Click the “Add Numbers To PDF” button

  • Wait for processing to complete (progress bar will show)

  • Note: Large PDFs with many pages may take longer

Step 4: Download

  • After processing, click “Download Numbered PDF”

  • File will be saved as [original-name]-numbered.pdf

  • The processed PDF is ready to use!

Additional Features

Reset Settings

  • Click “Reset Settings” to restore all options to defaults

  • Useful if you’ve made many changes and want to start fresh

Clear Files

  • Click “Clear Files” to remove all uploaded PDFs

  • Note: This cannot be undone

Multiple Files Workflow

  1. Upload multiple PDFs

  2. Select first PDF, add numbers, download

  3. Click eye icon on second PDF

  4. Add numbers, download

  5. Repeat for all files
