How to Use Color Palette Generator

Overview

The Color Palette Generator is a comprehensive tool for designers, developers, and creatives to create, customize, and export beautiful color palettes. All processing happens locally in your browser, ensuring complete privacy.

Getting Started

  1. Generate Your First Palette: Click the “Generate Random Palette” button to create a random 5-color palette

  2. Select Colors: Click on any color swatch to select it as your active color

Core Features

1. Color Palette Management

  • Generate Random Palette: Creates 5 random colors

  • Lock/Unlock Colors: Click the lock icon on any color swatch to prevent it from changing during new generations

  • Drag & Drop: Reorder colors by dragging and dropping swatches

  • Copy Colors: Click “Copy” on any swatch to copy its value

  • Select Color: Click on any swatch to make it the active color

2. Color Formats

  • Switch between HEX, RGB, and HSL formats using the format buttons

  • The active format applies to all color displays

  • Copy the formatted color value using the main copy button

3. Color Harmony Generation

Generate harmonious color schemes:

  • Analogous: Colors next to each other on the color wheel

  • Complementary: Opposite colors on the color wheel

  • Triadic: Three colors evenly spaced on the color wheel

  • Tetradic: Four colors arranged in two complementary pairs

  • Monochrome: Different shades, tints, and tones of a single color

4. Seed Color & Color Picker

  • Seed Color: Enter any color value in the seed color field and click “Generate from Seed”

  • Color Picker: Use the color picker to select any color visually

  • Eyedropper Tool: Use the browser’s eyedropper to pick colors from anywhere on your screen (Chrome/Edge only)

5. Image Color Extraction

  1. Click “Select Image” or drag & drop an image into the upload area

  2. Click “Extract Colors” to analyze the image

  3. View the 5 most dominant colors extracted

  4. Click “Add to Palette” to replace unlocked colors with extracted colors

6. Gradient Generator

  • Generate Gradient: Creates a gradient using the first 3 colors from your palette

  • Gradient Type: Switch between linear and radial gradients

  • Angle Control: Adjust the gradient angle with the slider

  • Copy CSS: Copy the generated CSS code for use in your projects

7. Accessibility Tools

  • Contrast Checker: Automatically checks contrast between the first two colors

  • AA/AAA Standards: Shows whether the contrast meets accessibility standards

  • Color Blindness Simulation: Simulate how colors appear to people with different types of color vision deficiencies

8. Save & Manage Palettes

  • Save Palette: Save your current palette with auto-generated name

  • Load Palette: Click the play icon on any saved palette to load it

  • Delete Palette: Remove saved palettes using the trash icon

  • Export Palette: Export individual palettes as JSON using the download icon

9. Export Options

Export your palette in multiple formats:

  • PNG: Download palette as a PNG image with color values

  • SVG: Download as SVG file for vector graphics

  • JSON: Export palette data as JSON file

  • CSS Variables: Generate and download CSS variables for web projects

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Spacebar: Generate new random palette

  • C: Copy the active color

  • L: Lock/unlock the first color

  • Ctrl+S: Save current palette
